Tariq Iqbal

Profile:

Dr Iqbal graduated from Fitzwilliam College Cambridge and trained in Gastroenterology, Liver medicine and General Medicine in Norwich, Manchester and Birmingham. His research on tropical enteropathy led to an MD thesis in 1996.

He was appointed consultant gastroenterologist at City Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust in 1996 and moved to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in 2007. He combines a busy clinical practice with an active research program and is involved in running numerous clinical trials in Gastroenterology. His primary research interest is in iron metabolism and Dr Iqbal is an expert on the pathogenesis and management of anaemia. He regularly lectures on this topic at National and International meetings. He is widely published and is a member of the National Gastroenterology Comprehensive Clinical Research Network
